Dog Is never singular. One gives way to two, then three others come to stay. Mad dashes through the house, leaps onto the sofa, over the coffee table, each other, knocking plants awry, pillows scattered, upsetting the entire morning which was trying for some order. Are they all yours? someone asks, as if I pick them up along the street like some itinerant dog collector. Embarrassed at such largesse I simply nod, and drag along leash by leash, the evidence of love. |
